For Whom Lip Lift is Suitable?

Lip lift surgery is suitable for individuals who want to improve the appearance of their lips by enhancing the shape, definition, and volume of the upper lip. It is ideal for people who have thin or asymmetric lips, a long distance between the nose and upper lip, or a drooping upper lip.

When Lip Lift is not Suitable?

Lip lift surgery may not be suitable for people who have certain medical conditions that can increase the risk of complications. It is not recommended for those who smoke or have a history of cold sores, as smoking can slow down the healing process and cold sores can increase the risk of infection. It is also important for patients to have realistic expectations about the results of the procedure.

What techniques are Used in Lip Lift?

There are several techniques used in lip lift surgery, including the Bullhorn lip lift, the Italian lip lift, and the Gullwing lip lift. The Bullhorn lip lift involves making an incision under the nose and removing a small strip of skin to lift the upper lip. The Italian lip lift involves making a similar incision but also includes the removal of some muscle tissue to lift and reshape the upper lip. The Gullwing lip lift involves making incisions at the corners of the mouth and removing a wedge-shaped piece of skin to lift the upper lip.

Preparation for Lip Lift Surgery

Before the procedure, patients will need to have a consultation with their surgeon to discuss their goals and medical history. They may need to stop smoking and avoid certain medications or supplements that can increase the risk of bleeding. Patients will also need to arrange for someone to drive them home after the procedure and may need to take time off work to recover.

Risks of Lip Lift Surgery

Like any surgery, lip lift surgery carries certain risks, including infection, bleeding, scarring, and changes in sensation. Patients may experience swelling and bruising after the procedure and may need to avoid certain activities for a period of time to allow for proper healing.

Procedure for Lip Lift Surgery

Lip lift surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia and can take between 30 minutes to an hour to complete, depending on the technique used. After making the incisions, the surgeon will remove the necessary tissue and then close the incisions with sutures. The patient will then be taken to a recovery area to allow for observation before being discharged.

Healing Process Post OP

Patients may experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising after the procedure, which can be managed with pain medication and cold compresses. They may need to avoid certain activities for several days to allow for proper healing. Patients should also avoid wearing lipstick or other lip products for a period of time to prevent infection. Most patients are able to return to work and resume normal activities within a week to ten days after the procedure. It may take several months for the full results of the lip lift surgery to be visible.
