HAIR TRANSPLANTS

Hair loss can be a distressing experience for many people, impacting their confidence and self-esteem. Hair transplant surgery is a safe and effective solution for those who want to restore a full head of hair.

For Whom Hair Transplants are Suitable?

Hair transplant surgery is suitable for both men and women who have experienced hair loss or thinning hair. Good candidates for hair transplant surgery have enough donor hair on the back or sides of their head to transplant to the thinning or balding areas.

When Hair Transplants are not suitable?

Hair transplant surgery may not be suitable for those who have experienced significant hair loss and do not have enough donor hair to transplant. It is also not suitable for those with medical conditions that could interfere with the healing process, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What Techniques are used in Hair Transplants?

The most common technique used in hair transplant surgery is Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), which involves extracting individual hair follicles from the donor area and implanting them into the balding or thinning areas. Another technique is Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), which involves removing a strip of scalp from the donor area and dividing it into individual hair follicles before transplanting them.

Preparation for Hair Transplant Surgery

Before hair transplant surgery, patients will need to avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements, quit smoking, and avoid alcohol consumption for several days. They may also be asked to cut their hair short to make the transplant process easier.

Risks of Hair Transplant Surgery

As with any surgery, hair transplant surgery carries some risks, including bleeding, infection, scarring, and numbness. However, these risks are rare and can be minimized by choosing an experienced and qualified surgeon.

Procedure for Hair Transplant Surgery

Hair transplant surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia, and patients can go home the same day. During the procedure, individual hair follicles are extracted from the donor area and transplanted into the balding or thinning areas. The procedure may take several hours, depending on the extent of the hair loss and the number of hair follicles to be transplanted.

Healing Process Post OP

Patients may experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the days following hair transplant surgery. They will need to avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for several days and may need to take time off work. The transplanted hair will fall out within a few weeks but will begin to regrow within a few months, with full results visible within 9-12 months.
