For Whom Breast Augmentation is Suitable?

Breast augmentation is suitable for women who wish to increase the size and volume of their breasts, improve the shape of their breasts, or restore lost breast volume after pregnancy or weight loss. Candidates should be in good health, have realistic expectations, and be at least 18 years old for saline implants or 22 years old for silicone implants.

When Breast Augmentation is not Suitable?

Breast augmentation may not be suitable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active infection or cancer in the breast tissue, or have a history of bleeding disorders. It is also not recommended for women who have unrealistic expectations or are unable to follow post-operative instructions.

What techniques are Used in Breast Augmentation?

There are two main techniques for breast augmentation: using saline or silicone implants. Saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater solution and can be adjusted during surgery to achieve the desired size and shape. Silicone implants are pre-filled with silicone gel and offer a more natural look and feel.

Preparation for Breast Augmentation Surgery

Before breast augmentation surgery, patients should undergo a thorough consultation with their surgeon to discuss their medical history, current medications, and desired results. Patients should also avoid smoking and certain medications that may increase the risk of bleeding.

Risks of Breast Augmentation Surgery

As with any surgical procedure, breast augmentation carries risks such as bleeding, infection, scarring, and changes in nipple sensation. It is important to choose a board-certified plastic surgeon and follow all post-operative instructions to minimize the risks.

Procedure for Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast augmentation surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia and takes about one to two hours. The surgeon will make an incision either in the crease under the breast, around the nipple, or in the armpit, and place the implant in a pocket either above or below the chest muscle.

Healing Process Post OP

After breast augmentation surgery, patients may experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort for several days. Patients should avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for several weeks and wear a supportive bra to aid in healing. It may take several months for the final results to fully develop.
